Bio
An old phrase is "speak softly and carry a big stick." Chad speaks softly because he thinks it's best to talk when he has something to say, not just to hear the sound of his own voice; as for the carrying a big stick part, he doesn't really need to, considering his natural size and strength and they way it's been augmented by his powers. But even to this day, Chad only thinks of his powers as something he can use for people. To do otherwise would be selfish, using power for power's sake, and doesn't cross his mind. Even if it did, he'd only be horrified. This is largely thanks to his two biggest influences: his grandfather, who taught him how not to use his fists, and Ichigo, who showed him how he can and should use them. Chad feels utter loyalty to both as a result, even though one of them is only a memory. Chad may not have a lot of close friends, but he gets along well with people, and values highly the bonds he does make.

Chad has a very calm, measured personality, although that doesn't mean he never has internal turmoil; it just means that he doesn't see the point of stirring things up and involving others in problems and emotional difficulties that he's capable of taking care of himself. He strongly believes that truly important matters should take precedence over his own problems, and his own safety. When Chad believes that something should be done, he does it, whether that's to help save a person he barely knows or to improve himself so that he's no longer following Ichigo from far away. Rather than burden others with his problems, Chad will quietly take the steps he sees as necessary to solve those problems.

None of this means he's incapable of confrontation, but there has to be a good reason for it.

For all that he's grown more serious since coming into contact with the spirit world, Chad also believes that life is meant to be lived, and he takes pleasure in the small things, whether that's playing his guitar, enjoying a cute animal or reading something new. He has goals for the future, but part of having a future means having a part of himself that isn't just a warrior.

After Aizen won the war, Chad had some decisions to make. He wanted to help out, but he wasn't a shinigami and didn't want to die to become one; additionally, he still wasn't at the level of strength he'd need to make a difference. So after the battle in the King's Realm, as things settled into a sort of shellshocked routine in Soul Society, Chad went traveling. He flew to Mexico and has spent the last two years exploring his ancestry, figuring out who he is and who he wants to be, and pushing himself to fully understand his powers by fighting against bad spirits. From time to time he would send Ichigo postcards (via Isshin) and even more occasionally got one in return, but it's been a largely solitary journey, marked by the short-term passage of people in and our of his life.

Now, over a year later, he feels stronger and able to make better use of the abilities he has, even if they're not on the same level of others' in terms of raw strength. He's not sure he'll do, but he'll start by returning to Karakura.
